Harmony on the Waterfront

How the Port of Kennewick Powers Community and Culture

At Emerald Spark Events, we know creating a successful community event requires collaboration, vision, and support. That's why we're incredibly grateful to the Port of Kennewick for their partnership in bringing the Clover Island Concert Series and Thunder on the Island to life each summer. More than just concerts, these events celebrate community, culture, and the unique character of our waterfront. The steadfast support of the Port has been instrumental in making this vision a reality, and we'd like to take a moment to express our heartfelt appreciation.

A Vision for Community Enrichment

The Port of Kennewick’s dedication to revitalizing Clover Island and the broader waterfront area reflects a deep understanding of how public spaces can foster economic growth, community engagement, and cultural vibrancy. By supporting events like the Clover Island Concert Series and Thunder on the Island, the Port of Kennewick is actively advancing the priorities outlined in the Kennewick Historic Waterfront District Master Plan. This visionary plan seeks to enhance waterfront access, stimulate tourism, and create a dynamic environment where residents and visitors can come together to enjoy unique experiences.

Clover Island, with its breathtaking views of the Columbia River, has become a hub of activity and a source of pride for our region. The concert series transforms the island into a vibrant gathering place where residents and visitors can experience live music, connect with friends and neighbors, and enjoy the beauty of our waterfront. This activation of public space directly supports the plan’s goal of making Clover Island a “People’s Place,” where everyone feels welcome and engaged.

Economic and Cultural Impact

The impact of these events extends far beyond the music. Each concert serves as an economic engine for the region, attracting visitors who dine at local restaurants, stay in nearby hotels, and explore the shops and attractions of the Historic Waterfront District. This influx of activity boosts local businesses and strengthens the economic fabric of our community, creating a ripple effect that benefits residents and entrepreneurs alike.

Clover Island itself has become a beacon of transformation, demonstrating how thoughtful investments in public infrastructure and programming can revitalize underutilized spaces. The Port’s efforts to improve access, enhance amenities, and support events like the concert series have turned the island into a premier destination that reflects the pride and potential of the entire region.

Building Community Connections

One of the most heartwarming aspects of the Clover Island Concert Series and Thunder on the Island is their ability to bring people together. With an average of 300 to 600+ attendees per event, these concerts draw a diverse audience from across the Mid-Columbia region. From families with children to retirees reliving their favorite hits, the concerts create an atmosphere of unity and joy that strengthens the bonds within our community.

The free admission for Thunder on the Island Wednesday evening shows is particularly noteworthy, as it ensures that more of the community can participate in the festivities. By removing barriers to access, the Port of Kennewick is living up to its mission of inclusivity and community service, ensuring that the benefits of these events are shared widely.

A Shared Success

Emerald Spark Events extends our appreciation to the Port of Kennewick and its leadership for their support of the Clover Island Concert Series and Thunder on the Island in collaboration with The Clover Island Inn. Investment in these events are making a tangible difference in the lives of residents, the success of local businesses, and the vibrancy of our community as a whole.

We look forward to another incredible season of music, joy, and togetherness on Clover Island. Together, with the support of the Port of Kennewick and our community, we are creating something truly special for generations to come.
